WIX · UX WRITER · 2022 – 2025

Quizzes & Surveys Tool

Simplifying a complex feature so creators could effortlessly build the quiz or survey their program needed.

As the UX writer for this project, I crafted clear, concise microcopy for both web and mobile, guiding users through every step of creating and managing quizzes and surveys. I worked closely with designers and developers to streamline the flow within real technical limitations — and to communicate the tool's versatility, since the same builder powered both graded quizzes and open-ended surveys. User research and collaboration with fellow writers helped me tailor the language to diverse audiences while staying aligned with Wix's voice.

Challenges

  • Making it clear that users could create both surveys and graded quizzes with the same tool.
  • Making the flow feel smooth despite interruptions caused by technical limitations.
  • Aligning the content with other Wix tools that use the same builder, while adapting the text to this product's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Competitor research to see what terms are used by similar products.
  • User research to refine the language so it resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Shaping the copy and placement for the various entry points to the feature.
  • Writing clear, engaging copy that guides users through creating quizzes and surveys for their online programs.

SLIDE 1 · ENTRY POINTS

Where it begins

The entry-point screens let creators add quizzes and surveys to an online course. I focused on concise labeling and intuitive placement inside the program creation flow — so the option feels obvious without crowding the canvas.

SLIDE 2 · USABILITY CHALLENGES

Too many ways to ask a question

Even before the builder, the basic-info screen sets the stage — clear microcopy gives the quiz a purpose and a place inside the program. But the builder itself had a problem: the original design listed every question type at once, across four categories.

Cognitive load was high, and some options were functionally redundant — "Short answer" and "Long answer" did nearly the same job. Spotting this kicked off a collaborative redesign with the design team.

SLIDE 3 · REDESIGNED BUILDER

Fewer choices, clearer paths

The redesigned builder dropped the redundant types and reorganized the rest into a smaller, scannable set. Consolidating similar options and removing complexity made the interface significantly more user-friendly — and made the writing job easier too: fewer labels to disambiguate, less helper text needed.

SLIDE 4 · CUSTOMIZING & TOOLTIPS

Helpful when it counts

A closer look at the customization panel: selecting correct answers, crafting feedback messages, pre-populating multiple-choice defaults to save users effort. Concise microcopy walks through each setting without lecturing.

Tooltips fill the small gaps — "Open-ended" is for gathering opinions, "Number" requires a numerical answer — so users can pick the right question type without breaking flow.

SLIDE 5 · MANAGING ON MOBILE

When edits belong on desktop

Mobile editing had real technical limits. Rather than half-implement it, the copy is honest about where each task lives — a brief, clear message points users to their desktop for quiz modifications. Transparency over friction.

SLIDE 6 · INSTRUCTOR'S VIEW

Tracking participant progress

The participant overview gives instructors a clear information hierarchy — concise labels plus visual cues (checkmarks and crosses) make it easy to spot where someone needs support. A failed quiz isn't buried; it's the first thing your eye finds.

When instructors drill in, results are optimized for mobile viewing — correct/incorrect answers distinguished at a glance and the score shown alongside the required passing grade for easy comparison.

SLIDE 7 · CELEBRATING THE WIN

Earning the moment

A celebration screen acknowledges the participant's success, shows their grade, and offers a Share button to spread the word. It's a small moment — but a meaningful one in a long course.

The detailed results screen that follows breaks down right and wrong answers, then closes with Retake and Next Step — concise calls to action that keep the learner moving forward.
